IN THEE I TRUST

A long time friend of mine has been MIA for what seems to be the past year. i decided to check up on him via cyber space activity, only to find that this insanely gifted dude has once again blown me away.
Never have a met anyone with such a steady flow of creative pulse, it never stops, he never stops, it drives me crazy.
He now has an entire operation up and running where he collects, reconstructs, refinishes, and brands guitars with his own unbelievably beautiful mark, which is a combination of a graphic and photographic style that no-one, even myself, has been able to successfully replicate.
must love. and must know that he is so ahead of his time.
proud of you james chiang. In thee i trust.

WAKE UP MAGGIE, I GOT SOMETHN TO SAY TO YOU!

Nothing gets the blood flow back into your finger tips like watching a young jay adams in his infamous 1975 del mar free style skate session. i feel lucky to have these kind of moments captured forever so i can savour them whenever i feel that fire inside start to burn out.
it is now ablaze.

WATER WEEK : DAY 3 - THE POINT

water week has continued, yesterdays activity ; surf THE POINT in santa cruz with friend and photographer Shae Rocco, also...drive the long way, coastal route: THE 1.
we arrived around 11:00 to find sun shinning, a clean point break, long sets, chest to head high waves, and a bunch really excited old local dudes.
we left around 5:00 with a newly acquired rosy tinge on the face, dark freckles, burritos in the belly, sand in our shorts and bruises on our hips.
when i got back to the city things conspired as such:
big stretch, read about water purification in the nike "BLUE PLANET RUN" book, remembered watching the billabong odyssey as youngster in the 6th grade, tried to rent it on itunes, failed to upload successfully (thanks steve jobs!), tried to rent "THE DEEP SEA", once again no dice, finally decided on "THE WILD PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL", whatdoyaknow success.
would you believe the only time the subject of water came up in the entire film was the closeing note, and the perfect closing to my day at the point (curious about the corrilation? watch and see)
----A river travels as one body. Until it hits a POINT, a cliff. after the river drops off the cliff the body separates into individual droplets independent from the others, traveling on its own course at its own speed.
At the bottom of the fall the drops of water end up, once again, as a single united stream. a perpetual movement of grace and charge. ----------- (PS that was paraphrased)
it just so happens that my best friend lana and i figured out how to harmonize acopella to an old hymn about, you guessed it, a river!

WATER WEEK : DAY 2 - DUSTIN HUMPHRE-EE-ED-ME-TODAY

Just as I had suspected, water week was just what the world needed (at least i can speak for mine). Water Week was declared on Sunday, so we hit the road on Monday. Hitting all appropriate spots for what i like to call "the-whole-nine-yards-beach-trip : North", my two best friends and i set out with no expectations, but we found a few things we had lost (like our minds).
Our spots included Muir Beach, Stinson, Bolinas, and Pt.Rayes, god love nothern california.
I remember seeing a collection of mind-blowing commercial-surf-style shots about 6 months ago, with those images burned into my frontal lobe the entire trip I was itching to get home and do some further investigation.
here are my findings:
Dustin Humphrey, dont know alot about him except that hes a goddamn genius, and thats all i need to know. So it turns out that the exact spread of photos i was thinking about has won some fancy-pants, SONY, best-photographer-in-the-world award, well not quite but apparently the prestige of this award means basically the same thing for whoever has recieved it.
Sony is one thing, but i can honestly say that these photos are 100% worthy. They are haunting, in the best way possible. After looking at them again, my state of awe came rushing back ten-fold. The concept for the shoot is my idea of a dream-come-true, only its so innovative that i havent had a chance to dream it yet, he did! not to mention the production involved with this shoot,....good lord i can only imagine the time and energy invested by tons of creative minds, and then theres the price tag...yowza. but once again all that cashola spent on production costs was well worth the feeling i get everytime i look at these glorious creations.
And now, water week continues, next location OB.
stay tuned folks.
today's program brought to you by the resident genius at Reel Sessions, Dustin Humphrey

(check under the collective tab, and then find dustin humphrey's, commercial work, sony world photography awards...was a little tricky to find).
woooo! pumped!
ohh, almost forgot; of course...props to whoever art directed this jewel of a shoot.
