I like boy stuff : Archy Marshall

Apparently I'm a little late on the game with this dude, as its seems the coolest cool kids where talking about him this time last year.

King Krule (formerly Zoo Kid) is the coolest of cool. awkwardly lovable, brash, with a hazy sound thats keeping me pressing repeat like i haven't since The Smiths entered my young life. His deceptively simple and raw music has a knowing sensibility that when coupled with his baby face makes for a winning combination.

Check the tunes here but first watch this stunning video for "Out Getting Ribs" (the kids got good taste, yeah, in food and art).

Prediction*
picture it: Archy and Hedi Slimane to do british teen heart throbe in hollywood. if it hasn't already happened. maybe i'll set it up. Archy should be modeling anyway.

LOUD

on the rare occasion that my earth-toned, minimal, less-is-more self becomes one with the world of gaudy I like to roll with it. There may be a number of things influencing this sudden fancy for all things loud and proud. the least mysterious of them may be that halloween is 2 days away and its crunch time for costume construction. On a similar note i seem to be sending out lego-like signals into the universe having spent so much time on my little brother's lego pharos get up (check out band of outsiders lego inspired blog PLAYWELL). Could be that I've taken such a liking to a certain fierce, attention getting, just-launched Aztec Parcel that I've been up close and personal with over the past week (will include a special explanation post in the near future).
Mostly I think all of this eclecticly colourful jazz was topped off by West and Beecroft's brainchild - Runaway. not so subtle symbolism and ego aside, its really terribly hard to deny the mesmerizing, awe inspiring wow factor that comes after watching the 35 minuet feature piece. The hyper-realistic visual style of the film plus its randomly dreamy almost "what the F" imagery and dialog makes for a damn good conversation starter. Musically brilliant, and worlds above what most mainstream celebrity "artists" are daring to do these days. I still have my qualms with a few particular scenes, but with that said i'll go to sleep tonight asking the elephant in my head to please not forget those breathtaking moments when Kanye's ballerina's danced their skinny little hearts out to the "Douchebag" song. epic.
ballerina shoes, blood, rose petal pink, venetian, feathers, tulle (um hello halloween costume)

THE SUM OF ALL ITS PARTS

"as i begin a final decent to the sea, i can feel the change in the air and am simply waiting for the broad expanse of pacific blue to be revealed, akin to the feeling of entering baseball stadiums, when the dirt and the grass and the lights bombard the eyes with pleasure and all you can do is revel in awe of something understandably greater than the sum of its parts.." - Ian momsen

WATER WEEK : DAY 3 - THE POINT

water week has continued, yesterdays activity ; surf THE POINT in santa cruz with friend and photographer Shae Rocco, also...drive the long way, coastal route: THE 1.

we arrived around 11:00 to find sun shinning, a clean point break, long sets, chest to head high waves, and a bunch really excited old local dudes.
we left around 5:00 with a newly acquired rosy tinge on the face, dark freckles, burritos in the belly, sand in our shorts and bruises on our hips.

when i got back to the city things conspired as such:
big stretch, read about water purification in the nike "BLUE PLANET RUN" book, remembered watching the billabong odyssey as youngster in the 6th grade, tried to rent it on itunes, failed to upload successfully (thanks steve jobs!), tried to rent "THE DEEP SEA", once again no dice, finally decided on "THE WILD PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL", whatdoyaknow success.

would you believe the only time the subject of water came up in the entire film was the closeing note, and the perfect closing to my day at the point (curious about the corrilation? watch and see)

----A river travels as one body. Until it hits a POINT, a cliff. after the river drops off the cliff the body separates into individual droplets independent from the others, traveling on its own course at its own speed.

At the bottom of the fall the drops of water end up, once again, as a single united stream. a perpetual movement of grace and charge. ----------- (PS that was paraphrased)

it just so happens that my best friend lana and i figured out how to harmonize acopella to an old hymn about, you guessed it, a river!
